I finally remembered to get a copy of my mom’s Sweet and Sour Sauce. She has been making this since we lived in Japan when I was little. I think I have been trying to remember to get the recipe for about that long too.
This was our left-overs go to recipe. Whatever meat we had left-over usually ended up in a pot of sweet and sour. I don’t think we ever actually had the Sweet and Sour Shrimp the recipe calls for. Also, none of the meat was breaded. Mom was not a big fan of frying. We just chunked it up and threw it into her big bright orange electric skillet.
She wouldn’t give me the cookbook, but at least I have the recipe. Jim and the kids gave it 2 thumbs up…..I’m very relieved for them because I was going to make it again regardless!
I made it with chicken breast, onions, green pepper….and when it didn’t look like it was going to be enough I threw in a bag of frozen green beans and a bag of broccoli. They licked the pan clean. I served it on a bed of rice.
Can you tell this is a well used recipe?
I do have to say my mom is so cute. When she gave this recipe to me, she told me to remember it will last a long time in the refrigerator. All you have to do is shake it up right before you use it.
Tonight, I cooked 3 lbs of chicken, 2 onions, 1 huge bell pepper, two cups of little carrots, 1 lb bag of green beans and a 1 lb bag of broccoli and served it over 6 cups of cooked rice. We didn’t have any sauce left. We also didn’t have any leftovers!
She forgets there are five hungry Cecil kids!
